A serious review of a frivolous game, what could be better than the first of April?? Enjoy your viewing in advance!
Text version of the review
So, I am 26 years old, and I’m busy playing Barbie video games. In general, why? Yes, everything is very simple, in fact, because I lived and grew up with my sister, so when a computer appeared in the house (and this was somewhere in 2001), she also wanted to use it, so at one time I found a lot of girly games, one of which was this game about Barbie, which I unironic I like to play occasionally. In the last video on my channel, I said that my “guilty pleasure” is “Prototype 2”, but my real “guilty pleasure” is “Barbie: Fashion Show”, to be honest. Of course, many years after the first acquaintance with it and having a huge video game experience, even I understand that the game is actually not the best, but one way or another, today I invite you to plunge into this pool with me and understand why this game deserves attention at all.
So, "Barbie. Fashion show" came out in 2004 from the pen of Knowledge Adventure studio, now JumpStart Games, and was published by Activision and Vivendi Universal. This studio doesn’t have a special track record of games, in any case, I didn’t find anything outstanding or at least familiar there, so if anyone knows what they are famous for, please comment. Actually, the game is, oddly enough, an arcade simulator of a fashion designer, extremely simplified due to the age group at which the project was aimed, but let’s devote a few words to the local and rather nominal plot. In general, it’s like Barbie sits in her studio and develops sketches of all sorts of blouses, blouses, etc.d. Then, out of nowhere, some lady with a dog in her bag appears and introduces herself as Cookie McFarland, a famous clothing designer, who immediately invites Barbie to work as a fashion designer for her and create several collections of clothes on different themes. And naturally, without asking for documents or any confirmation that this is not a scam, she immediately agrees to this gorgeous proposal, and the painstaking work begins! Yes, in general, this is the whole plot, t.To. Next we’ll just work for this same Cookie and make clothes, so without further ado let’s move on to the gameplay.
Despite the fact that https://independentcasinosites.co.uk/review/slots-amigo/ the game does not Ryan Gosling, I included it in the review anyway. There is always a place for a handsome man!
Actually, I have already revealed my cards, gameplay this is as simple as it can be. The player’s goal is as follows: he needs to create several outfits of varying degrees of entertainment, select models for the show, select appropriate accessories for the outfits and conduct the show, having previously rehearsed it. The process of creating outfits, at best, takes 30 seconds, because we need to choose a certain item of clothing, be it a blouse, some pants or skirts, or even a ready-made dress, select the appropriate style for the clothing, presented either in a single color or patterned, and also, if desired, decorate the resulting outfit with various appliqués. The process is quite creative and, for ordinary normal guys, can be great entertainment for several hours, because drawing all sorts of pussy no one forbids wearing clothes or anything more ostentatious, which is why it becomes even funnier when during a show a model comes onto the catwalk with an anarchy sign on her butt or with a word (or not a word) XYZ on blouse. Fashion show, neither give nor take.
After creating our exquisite outfits, we move on to the selection of models and accessories, which is quite simple and, in my opinion, not done well enough. There are only five models, including Barbie herself, who, apparently, wants not only to eat fish, but also not to choke on a bone, and there are generally two types of accessories offered: hairstyles and shoes. And in my humble opinion this set… is not enough. Well, it was worth adding some bracelets or belts as accessories, but with their presence the game would have become much worse? So I think that not really, on the contrary, I would only win. In general, after selecting hairstyles and shoes, we proceed directly to preparing our show, which is also quite easy to do. Here we need to choose the type of podium, its design, and also conduct a rehearsal for the show itself with the selection of appropriate poses for the walk. Depending on the theme, for decoration we will always be given two options for podium covering, lighting, decor and music, and to be honest, in terms of music, the game sometimes just gets ridiculous. Imagine that at some Fashion Week girls will wear something like this:
In fact, from the entire soundtrack of the game there are about 5-6 musical compositions, as they say, nor sew a cap to the scrotum, but other than that he’s not that bad
In general, we’ll talk about music later, but for now let’s get to the gameplay. The selection of poses is quite simple: we launch our model into the tunnel and, when it approaches the cross icon, click on one of fifteen poses of varying degrees of entertainment. Here the model can spin around in front of you, and wave his hand, and your kung fu demonstrate and how a robot can dance. But the most important thing that pleases me personally is that you don’t have to choose these poses at all and simply ignore the rehearsal process and go straight to the show itself. Well, there’s nothing to tell here at all: we just watch our models walk back and forth and choose a good angle to take six photos, and God bless, that here, too, you can hammer in a huge bolt and just take a photo of everything right from the start, and then stupidly skip the show. Well, in general, this is all the gameplay that the player will encounter!
And then for me personally they start questions arise, in addition to those that I have already mentioned above, as with the same accessories. For example, why for each collection we have a limited selection of clothes and styles, but at the same time we can easily choose old accessories? Why was it necessary to limit the sets of catwalks that open every three shows, but no one limited the poses for models, of which there are three types, but at the same time there is no point in separating them at all? It’s not that I want to know all this, and in general, it’s probably not worth looking for logic in a game for girls about Barbie, which, moreover, can be easily completed in 1.5-2 hours one hand. However, if we evaluate this game from the perspective of an ordinary girl from 2004 who was brought this to play, then the gameplay is probably pretty good. Well, judge for yourself, here you can make your own clothes and watch how computer dolls walk in them, it’s probably cool and to some extent develops the child’s creative abilities, so I, hand on heart, will give this game a rating for its gameplay.. 72/100, because it is simple and interesting, even despite unnecessary or, on the contrary, missing details.
Let’s move on to the rest of the components, and we’ll probably start with graphics, which does not stand the test of time at all and, at best, resembles the well-known “The Sims 2” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”, which were released around the same time. However, it is worth noting that for such a game the graphics are even good: the models and surroundings look quite neat and bright, the animation of the models could be five times worse, and even in an image stretched to fill the entire screen, these shoals seem like small stuff. Therefore, graphically the game boldly takes 65/100. But sound and music I’m ready to praise because the game sounds good. There aren’t a lot of sounds here, but at least they’re not annoying, and most of the music is quite pleasant and not off-putting, if you don’t take into account the fact that some shows use completely strange samples, and the one I showed is probably one of the strangest. Well, everything is quite good, so I’ll give it for the sound design 73/100. Well, I don’t want to evaluate the plot here, because it doesn’t exist as such, so we can move on to the results!
The total is 210/300, well or 7/10, which is quite a good indicator considering that this is a children’s game, also for girls. Therefore, I can fully recommend it to people who have daughters and who are interested in all that, or lost guys like me, who have nothing to do. Here, by the way, I wanted to insert a few words about sequel game, released in 2008, but having downloaded it and played the first half hour, I’m ready to say with confidence that this crap does not deserve any attention, because.To. in comparison with the first part it became worse graphically, musically and almost unchanged gameplay. So that’s all I have for today!
